It is said that life begins at forty - if that is so, 2009 should be a great time for the Hawks as we had our first league meeting on
29th March 1969. Click for the Hawks first league meeting details

In conjunction with the Glasgow Cycle Speedway History Association we held a pub lunch on Sunday 29th March in the Beechwood Pub - just over the road from the Hawks old track to celebrate the Fortieth Anniversary of our first meeting. Amongst those who attended were Hawks "old boys" Ronnie Young, Alex Norrie, Gordon Aitken and Nicky Nicolson - all of whom were involved in that historic afternoon. Other former riders from that era were Brian Gilliland and Sandy Robertson of Kingsway anf Jackie Hides of Ralston.
We also held a further Hawks get together , on Saturday 17th October to commemorate our Cup double (KO Cup and Les Whaley Cup wins) when we met for a meal and a drink or two before going up to Firhill to see the Partick Thistle versus Ayr United game. Special mugs featuring a forty years badge designed by Ronnie Young were distributed to all who attended.
With our anniversary year drawing to a close, Gerry McColl has been in touch, having "googled" our site and there is every prospect that we will be meeting up with him when he visits the UK next year.
Here's to the next forty years!!
