NACSA Individual Finals in Glasgow 1970

The handbill produced by John Speirs declared that this would be the greatest cycle speedway event eve held in Scotland – and may be it was – although the 1962 World Final at Harrison Park in Edinburgh must also be a contender for that title!

Disappointingly a number of senior riders were absentees. Hold your heads in shame- Frank Smith, Roger Ellis, Dave Dale, Joe Grant and Tony Johnson, particularly as all junior finalists made the journey from their English homes. Meeting reserves Jack Pinkerton (Sighthill) and Dave Reid (Offerton), along with Dave Wilson (Blackley), John Murphy (Seafield) and Stu Baxter (Bridgend) were all brought in as replacements

Stu Potter (Bridgend) and Jack Pinkerton made it a Scottish, and indeed Edinburgh, one – two after Jack Pinkerton beat Derek Garnett in a run off which saw the latter excluded for a tapes offence. Gordon Tennant of Bridgend made it a double for the Bats by taking the junior title after a run off with Pete Swain (Leicester) and Rob White (Carrs Wood)
